An Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) is a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you as an individual from every other researcher.
Through integration in key research workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, ORCID supports automated linkages between you, your funding and your research outputs.
The UK Data Service supports the use of persistent identifiers across its work so that data, metadata and other outputs can be reliably referenced and linked. This helps assure credit is given to the creators of such outputs, and enables links across your research portfolio to be made.
We are part of a project with the British Library to promote the uptake of ORCIDs across academia and beyond.
A unique ORCID is free and available to all, via a simple registration process on the ORCID website.
