Do you want to know how to use online tools to access and analyse UK census data from the UK Data Service?
The UK Data Service is a rich source of census data. In December, we are holding a series of three introductory online workshops aimed at showing census users the key tools of accessing and analysing census aggregate data, flow data and microdata from the UK Data Service. These three workshops are free to attend.
The workshops will include a presentation, demonstration, exercises and follow-up discussion. Participants will be given worksheets and use our free online tools to complete the activities.

Target audience: Anyone interested in using census data to produce basic analyses using census data for any purpose, such as for research, reports or student dissertations
Workshop 1: Accessing and analysing census aggregate data
1 December 2020, 12 – 13.30 GMT
In this workshop, we will provide an overview of census aggregate data and show how to access them. We will outline the different types of census aggregate data available from the UK Data Service and demonstrate how to explore and analyse these data using free online query tools. We will also guide you on how to download census aggregate data on to your machine.

Workshop 2: Accessing and analysing census flow data
8 December 2020, 12 – 13.30 GMT
In this workshop, we will provide an overview of census flow data and show how to access them. We will outline the different types of census flow data available from the UK Data Service and demonstrate how to explore and analyse these data using the free online query tool WICID. We will also guide you on how to download census flow data on to your machine. 
Participants will use WICID (free online tool) to complete the activities. Spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel may also be used to assist in achieving some of the exercises’ objectives.

Workshop 3: Accessing and analysing census microdata using Nesstar 
16 December 2020, 14.00 - 15.30 GMT
In this workshop we will provide an overview of census microdata, show how to register in order to access census microdata, as well as demonstrating how to access census microdata from the UK Data Service using the online resources tools. We will also outline the different census microdata available from the UK Data Service and show how to explore and analyse these data online using the free online exploration tool Nesstar. We will finally guide you on how to download census microdata on to your machine.
