Article dated: 28 June 2010

The UK Data Archive recently underwent an external audit against ISO/IEC 27001:2005. This standard covers: information technology, security techniques, information management systems and requirements. fingerprint security

This audit was successful and the UK Data Archive has been recommended for registration to this standard.

Matthew Woollard, Director-Designate, stated: "meeting the requirements of this demanding standard demonstrates the huge level of commitment the UK Data Archive places on information security and clearly displays our credentials for running the Secure Data Service for the ESRC. This immense achievement could not have been accomplished without the co-operation of all staff as well as exceptional efforts from a number of key staff. We are, as far as we know, the only digital repository in the UK which has reached this standard."

The scope of registration will be in the provision of an Information Security Management System in support of all aspects of digital curation being carried out at the UK Data Archive, such as the selection, acquisition, ingest, archiving, and provision of access to data, and the management and planning of digital curation activities. It incorporates all services carried out by the UK Data Archive, including the Economic and Social Data Service, the Secure Data Service and the ESRC Census Programme.
