UK Data Archive: celebrating 50 years
Article dated: 24 May 2017
In 2017 the UK Data Archive is celebrating 50 years of curating high-quality research data for analysis and reuse.
Founded in 1967 as the Social Science Research Council Data Bank, and based at the University of Essex, over the past 50 years the Archive has become an internationally acknowledged centre of expertise in acquiring, curating and providing access to social science and humanities data.
Much has changed over the year and we'll be taking a tour of the last five decades of the UK Data Archive's work with a series of short articles entitled 'A decade in 50 words'.
This picture from 1968 shows the first director of the Archive, Professor Allen Potter, and the Data Bank in action.
