The 70s. The Data Bank becomes the Survey Archive and the Government Statistical Service enables government surveys to be deposited at the Archive - Ivor Crewe, Director 1974-82, highlights this as a “mark of government recognition and approval”. At this time, most data are backed up on large reels of magnetic tape.
