Guide to UNESCO Research and Experimental Development Statistics


As the statistical branch of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the Institute for Statistics (UIS) produces cross-nationally comparable statistics on education, science and technology, culture, and communication for more than 200 countries and territories. 

The UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) produces a wide range of indicators on the human and financial resources invested in R&D for countries at all stages of development. The Research and Experimental Developments Statistics consist of annual data from 1996 onwards for over 160 countires.  The data were collected through the Institute’s survey on R&D statistics in partnership with regional and international organizations, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Eurostat.
